It represents Heaven, Divine Glory, and Light. The Mandorla is where sacred moments transcending time and space occur. Renaissance painters placed Christ or the Virgin Mary in this space to show their role as intermediaries between God and his children. The fish symbol early and modern Christians identify with is a Mandorla.
